In spite of their fatalistic outlook on life, HMC3 Santiago is a skilled Medic and a marvelous addition to the medical team. The trauma of their early childhood and lack of stability during their formative years has, unsurprisingly, led to many defensive tendencies. Skyler is notoriously cold and blunt, often making others uncomfortable with their direct commentary. Other members of the crew have observed that Santiago often holds others at arm’s length. This is further intensified by the placement of Santiago’s bunk, which they moved so as not to disturb others with their frequent night terrors.
As one of the survivors of the Flame of Liberty, Santiago exhibits a fondness for the other survivors that were rescued along side them. Though that have willingly missed several scheduled therapy sessions, Santiago seems to talk openly and honestly when we do meet, stating that they’ll talk when they’re ready and not before.
With that said, when it is time to talk, Santiago seems to prefer the council of Dido Valenti over Peterson. Concerns that they are overworking themselves abound, however Santiago seems to do it as a coping mechanism.
Were the situation normal, we would recommend the Santiago be relieved of duty, but with circumstances being what they are, Santiago is simply too in- valuable to the well-being of the crew to have their skills shelved.
This problem is further compounded by one simple fact: Adrift in space, thousands of light years from home, where would they even go to relax?

Short description: The younger Blackett sister is an impetuous academic firebrand who excelled at her chosen field; but was kept in line by the rigorous cronyism of the academic world. She grew up with the freedom that neither of her siblings enjoyed, not being the heir or oldest sister, which meant that marriage was inevitable but less of a pressing matter than for her older sister Philippa. Vanessa has found friends in circles unfitting for her station and enjoyed her own rebellion in her young years.
Vanessa handed in her psychology thesis just weeks before the world was turned upside down and the war broke out in earnest. Her old commoner friend Theresa Williams had filled her head with thoughts of rebellion in the face of oppression and injustice.
Eager to fight for what she thought to be right, defeating The Authority and its oppressive tools in The Magisterium, Vanessa had cast aside her family name to be able to head to the frontlines, as her brother, Lord Edward Blackett had specifically told her to stay at the University while he fought in the war.

Emberlin is optimistic about every situation she finds herself in. She has a lot of pride in what she does for Ashveil and loves to help in any way she can (even if she didn’t, she has trouble saying no). Emberlin greatly values all of her relationships, even those with new acquaintances. She is competitive, but always fair and supportive; high energy, but knows when she needs a more serious tone. She will treat anyone to a sweet snack to boost their spirits.
Emberlin grew up in Ashveil with her mother and two older brothers. They all trained together in their early years until the brothers decided to move on to new regions to share their skills as artisans with others. Being on her own with her mother, she felt a need to get stronger and continue training and through that made the decision to use these skills by joining the town guard. It wasn’t long after that she quickly rose to become lieutenant. Captain Z wasn’t the easiest to work with at first, but she’s found smooth communication with them over time. She hopes to someday go off on her own and find where her brothers have settled, but for now she finds a greater duty in helping and protecting the people of Ashveil.
