Before We Look Back

This is going to be fun. For the first time I’m taking a leap away from strictly midwest-local LARPs and the national blockbusters.
If you don’t know what a LARP is, I recommend taking a look at this page HERE to find out more.

Here’s where you’ll be able to find me!

Under the Table

January 16
Chicago, IL

Under the Table is a 1930s Prohibition-Era intrigue game about loyalty, power, and secrets, where every conversation could make or break an alliance.

That’s right, it’s a mafia LARP.
The Roaring Twenties are gone — the stock market has crashed, the Great Depression is here, and Chicago is still running on liquor and blood. Prohibition remains the law of the land, but the city drinks harder than ever, and gangsters fight tooth and nail to control the flow. The newspapers scream about shootings, the politicians make speeches about reform, and the real business happens after dark, under the table.
The speakeasy where you gather is more than a watering hole. It’s a crossroads where alliances are forged, secrets are traded, and debts come due. It’s neutral ground… at least until the guns come out.

This is a short, 4-hour event held at Goblin Market, as written and run by Coco Kasperowicz.

Intercon X

February 26 – March 1
Warwick, RI

Intercon X (Xenial) is the TWENTY-SEVENTH weekend-long LARP convention of its kind in the Boston area. Hundreds of LARPs with runtimes ranging from 1-8 hours are presented, some of them for first time interactions and some have been in the circuit for a number of years now. Despite my love for the hobby, I have never before attended a single convention, but starting in 2026 I’m making up for the lost time.
After seeing the event list, I really said “How many Bjergtaget-inspired games can I possibly get into?” (In the end: Three)
I’ll go more into detail about the contents of each of these games after the event!

Outbound Hope Mission

April 30 – May 3 AND May 7 – May 10
USS Edson, Bay City, MI

Outbound Hope has been a dream LARP of mine since it’s very first run back in 2019. I was one of the unlucky players who had registered for season two and never saw the day thanks to the global coriander panini.
But now it’s back! And I just couldn’t stop myself from signing up for BOTH runs of it

The Story: In 2160, a European scientific scouting team stumbled upon one of the greatest discoveries in centuries: a massive hexagonal ring that — once activated — instantaneously transported ships to another star system nearly perfect for human habitation on the far side of the galaxy.
Now in 2219, a major attempt to colonize this new system — THE OUTBOUND HOPE MISSION — seeks to transport more than 30,000 colonists on 71 ships into parts unknown in a galaxy of adventure and possibilities…

Above game, OHM is a multi-day, live-action role playing event intended to give players the realistic, immersive experience of being aboard a space-bound starship.
In week one, I’ve registered to be a member of the Martian Crew of the MCRF Allan Sandage, a huge research platform within the fleet. And for the second week, I’ll be a Drone Pilot, working as a pair with another player to pilot unmanned drones from the flagship Flame of Liberty.

Vanitas

July 30 – Aug 2
Elligay GA

Vanitas is a three-day, 20-player larp about artistic creation, connection, and the societal barriers—such as competition, commodification, and late-stage capitalism—that seek to stifle the creative spirit.

I have at this point played a visual artist in two separate games. When I saw this, my first thought was, “this game sounds like it would be incredibly stressful.” But after a few weeks, I rethought it. Were those previous games stressful because I was trying to make a lot of art? Or were they stressful because of the unimaginable horrors I was putting myself through while also trying to make art?
Pro Tip: NEVER use method acting techniques to get into the mindset of a traumatized artist.

The story is set at the start of an annual artist’s retreat, which only the highest-achieving students at the Georgia College of Art & Design are invited to attend. The retreat was established to offer students the time, space, and resources to devote themselves to the creation of a great work of art. However, the retreat’s original mission has warped over the years under the limited supervision and tyrannical guidance of the faculty, eventually morphing into a high-stakes competition to evaluate a student’s long-term artistic viability and potential.
Upon arrival, students are provided with a prompt for the project they must create, to be judged at the weekend’s conclusion. How each student answers the prompt will determine not only how well they perform at GCAD, but in the art world at large. The awarded coveted industry referrals can guarantee a young artist success in their career post-graduation.
In order to qualify for the competition, each student must submit a work of art outside of their trained art form. The art forms of their peers and competitors, in fact.

I’m hoping to play a visual artist for this one with a minor of dance in order to be able to put my best foot forward for each challenge and reduce any creative stress. We’ll find out in another month!

Neon Void 1984

August 7 – August 9
Cambridge, MA

It is 1984. As demagogues trade lies on the world stage under the looming threat of nuclear annihilation, a forgotten government program, Project Chalice, stands on the brink of breaching the veil into other dimensions. Led by the erratic Dr. Leighton Hooke, this last refuge of Cold War black research is about to plunge into something unknowable.
Neon Void 1984 is a live-action horror story about the researchers and staff of Project Chalice who, over a single weekend transform from scientists into cultists, and who they become by 1985 once they’ve made their choice to pursue power, knowledge, or safety at any cost.

At it’s heart, this is a story about losing oneself to the unknown. Scientists leave behind rationality and embrace the occult, making Faustian bargains with forces far beyond comprehension. It’s a tale of transformation, sacrifice, and monstrous rebirth: mirroring the upheavals of 1984 itself, as old systems rot and something far darker rises to replace them.

Paranoia? Recklessness? Power Complexes? Occultism? Character Death? THE 1980s?!
Yes, I signed up the moment tickets were available.

Necronomicon

August 13 – August 16
Providence, RI

NecronomiCon Providence is a biennial multi-faceted exploration of the weird fiction literary genre, which combines elements of horror, science fiction, fantasy, and magical realism. The convention is part literary and academic conference, part fan festival, and part community reunion of people from around the world who are drawn to Providence.

This one was added to my schedule on a whim and is honestly still up in the air. But it would be so easy to just add one more week to this already 2-week-long break in August, right? My work is honestly pretty slow that month.

Be-Con

September 25 – September 27
Chicago, IL

I apologize that there isn’t much information here, but just like Intercon X, Be-Con is a weekend-long LARP convention. Registration has yet to begin for this event.

And More??

At any moment, another game could be announced that interests me. They could be added to the schedule, and events I have yet to fully pay for could get kicked off. It’s very fluid until the character surveys start rolling out~

I can’t wait to tell you all how it goes.

Many descriptions in this post were taken directly from the creators of each game as stated on official websites and in marketing materials. If you want to know more, PLEASE follow the links to each to discover for yourself the incredible worlds people are creating out there.
