Welcome to the first post. I’m so glad you’re here!
It’s a long way forward from here, but an adventure worth starting upon.
I just have to get it out of the way, right? This will be short and sweet, laying out my intentions for the future of this blog as you will learn I do at the beginning of any project.
Statement of Intention
I intend to utilize a text-based platform, or blog, to publicly present my personal thoughts and opinions on Live Action Role Playing Games (LARPs) and other immersive experiences. Regular postings would feature opinions on or the development of games and mechanics based on personal experience, as well as listings for upcoming deadlines of various events, especially those relating to the topics presented. Special, post-event articles would include my after-action reports (AARs) in both spoiler-free and spoiler-included versions when possible.
In the future, I believe it will be beneficial to viewership to spotlight various players, creators, and designers and their individual stories via extensive interview. The format of these posts would not conform to text-only publications, but also include professionally-edited audio and/or video recordings of the interviews themselves for an added layer of intimacy/personality.
Convention schedules, craft tutorials, advice, and reviews of non-LARP media are included in the realm of possible topics, though they will be more rare than the standard, with frequency being based on reader feedback.
This project, titled PhotoCheyLARPs (subject to change), is set to launch October 31, 2025 and will continue through October 31, 2026, during which time I will publish a minimum of 12 blogposts at a rate of one per calendar month, not including the Statement of Intention. At the end of this period, I will reflect on the one-year term and determine whether or not to pursue a potentially indefinite endpoint.
What’s in a name?
Just a few years ago I began changing my screen name across platforms to photocheyhearts, a name that I felt represented me in many ways. It included my actual name (Chey), something that I do (take photos), something about my personality (I’m shy about having my photo taken), and it was just a little cutesy (♡). I had first used this name to title an account dedicated to reposting kpop photos and videos, but after admittedly being informed that an old username included an element I had not previously known to be problematic, it quickly spread to be the forerunner of my online persona.
And so I have now adjusted it for a different use: the title of this blog! I have yet to decide if PhotoCheyLARPs or LARPCheyHearts is the better option, so as of right now you can access this site using either one as the domain name and I will release an update when one has been officially chosen.
If you would like to help me decide, please let me know here which you prefer. In my own reasoning, PhotoCheyLARPs sounds more personal but like it may only pertain to myself in LARPs, whereas LARPCheyHearts sounds more community-oriented as though the readers are all hearts who are a little shy to some element of LARP, but could be read again more personally as myself “heart”-ing LARP.
